Lake Baikal, located in the southern region of Russia, is the world's oldest and deepest freshwater lake. Nearly 400 miles long, curving through south-eastern Siberia, geologists say that lake Baikal is what seaboards of North America, Africa, and Europe looked like before the countries separated millions of years ago.
Russia holds 22% of the world's forests, so it is important to understand what types of forests are occupying the land, Boreal forest covers a majority of Russia, making it the major source of lumber in the county. The northern parts of Russia are too harsh for forests to grow in, as represented by the Tundra.
